Asbestos Training
AHERA Building Inspector (BI)

Revisions in EPA and OSHA regulations now require that all asbestos samples collected from publicly-accessed buildings be collected by an Accredited AHERA Building Inspector. This three-day course satisfies the requirements outlined in the April 1994 EPA Model Accreditation Plan (MAP) and the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). It is required for anyone conducting building surveys for the presence of asbestos-containing materials. This includes industrial hygienists, engineers, architects, property managers, regulator personnel and environmental consultants.

Health & Safety Training
HAZWOPER (40Hr) (HAZ)

This course satisfies the health and safety training requirements of the OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations, 29CFR 1910.120 e(3) regulation. The course is taught using lecture, classroom exercises and substantial hands-on simulation. A 24-Hour course is also offered for workers on site only occasionally for specific limited tasks or who are unlikely to be exposed over permissible and published exposure limits. We also offer 40 hours of additional training required by WISHA to meet the 80 hours requirement for those who work in Level A or Level B conditions.

Lead Worker (LEW)

This class is designed for construction project managers, estimators, supervisors and workers who encounter lead exposure issues during construction activities. The focus is on understanding the regulatory issues and control technologies in order to avoid costly job delays and citations. Other topics include health effects, air monitoring, understanding laboratory results, and exposures associated with various construction activities. This class meets the requirements of WAC 296-155 for lead awareness training.

Lead Risk Assessor (LRA)

This course will present the HUD devised methods for Lead Risk Assessment Screen and Full Risk Assessment. These are methods of onsite investigations of a residential dwelling to discover lead-based paint hazards. The course content includes lead risk assessment protocol, collecting background information on the property and occupants, visual inspection and assessment, sampling for lead exposures (paint, wipe, soil and other), interpretation of sample results, overview of O & M program, interim controls, hazard control options, recordkeeping, risk assessment report, liability, insurance and public relations issues. The course includes 4-hours of hands-on activities including sampling, interpretation of sampling results and assessment activities. This certification qualifies a person to conduct lead hazard screens and risk assessments for the purpose of recommending lead hazard control options. A risk assessor identifies environmental sources of lead and also performs abatement clearance.

This course includes background information, uses and health effect of lead, regulatory review pertaining to lead-based paint, roles and responsibilities of the lead-based paint inspector, lead-based paint, dust, soil and other inspection methodologies, building construction and components related to lead-based paint, clearance standards and testing, interpretation of lead sampling results, formulation and implementation of the final inspection report, recordkeeping and an introduction to risk assessment and lead hazard screen protocol. The course includes 8 hours of hands-on activities including inspection methods, sampling methodologies, lab results interpretation, and inspection reporting. In addition to the course notebook, each attendee will receive a copy of the applicable sections of the HUD Guidelines for The Evaluation and Control of Lead-Based Paint Hazards in Housing.
